Hello - I am trying to create a target line at 80% on a single bar graph, but when I create at target, I get a dot vs. a line that extends horizontally across the bar graph,   Are you able to help?

Thanks

Hello,

you need two data points and connect them with a line. This is typically done with a XY chart on the secondary axis.

See attached example.

Hi - yes I have been able to work with multiple data points but need for one only since I have built a thermometer like bar graph and want to show target at 80%...is this possible

Hello,

you can use a single data point and add X error bars, format the error bar line to the desired thickness and color. See attached

An overlaid XY chart is easier and quicker to set up, though, even if you have to enter more data cells.

Hello - can explain step by step how you created the target line.

Since I already have one data source $A$7:$N$8,

i am clicking on data source, adding another series (series name - target, then Series value I select data
0      1      2      3      4      5      6      7
1      0.8      0.8      0.8      0.8      0.8      0.8      0.8

I get an error messge "the reference is not valid.  Reference for titles, values, or sizes bus be a since cell, row, or column.

Hoping you can help.

Alternatively, you could work out the variance to target and then have another data series for this. Then have Stacked column and the variance portion would sit on top of the results, unless the Actual result was greater than target when it would end up below so would ahve to accommodate this in the Variance formula.

You could also for the value above target with a separate series.

See attached.

I like your first solution - just don't know how you got to it.   If you could help design step by step.  I have created a secondary access, but issue is when I try to get data I don't see the line or I get an error message from above.   let me know if you can help.l
