Problem with Mac laptop printer in remote desktop

I have a mac laptop with a hp officejet pro 8500 a909a correctly set up. I have a windows server 2008 terminal server set up with appropriate 8500 drivers.

When the 8500 is set up on a remote desktop under windows, it prints correctly and uses the correct driver.

When 8500 printer is used on the mac laptop, the terminal server instead replaces the driver with a hp color laserjet 2800 series ps driver. The printer on the mac laptop therefore prints incorrectly, cutting off the first couple inches on the left side from printing.

From what I can tell the hp 2800 driver is sort of a universal driver, but the event viewer does not suggest any incompatabilities or missing drivers. TS Easy print is not an option.

How can I remedy this? I have used an officejet 6000 on the mac and had no problems.

thanks

Thank you for your response. By the way, I have no idea why this ended up in the ms word zone.

There is not much verbiage on either side (windows/mac) in terms of pcl vs ps or whatever drivers are used; is there someplace in the mac side I can see what is actually being used? All I see is a version number and nothing much more no matter how deep I dig into printer setups. The same seems to apply on the server side as well. Mac has v3.1.3 and server side has 12.x.x. and the hp website seems to show nothing more on driver options. How do I get  the universal driver into the mac?
