Windows 7 Update asks for Administor Password to update
I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate on a brand new computer. The computer has only been running for the last 24 hours. Everything was going great. I received notifications that there were updates. I clicked on the important updates to install and the system did so and rebooted.
Then I noticed that there were some Optional Updates that I needed to install, in relation to my printer driver and nVidia Video Card. I ticked the boxes, click on install updates and the following error message comes up ...
You need to provide administrator permission
To complete this task, you need to log on as an administrator or ask an administrator to complete the task for you.
My user account is an Administrator Account and my UAC is the 3rd lowest from the top.
What do I do?

Hi Glen,
I did that, and my name is under the administrators group.

Now what?
It is not an error, you should be able to click ok and it will continue and install.

It doesn't do that. I click okay and returns to the Windows UPDATE window.

Well, I fixed this on my own, by simplying rebooting.
I don't know what's the reason for asking for admin rights but
I guess windows is asking for Administrator Password and not asking for right of any user from administrator's group..
There is difference between user: Administrator and Group: Administrators.
Try log on with user: Administrator and see if it makes a difference.. Do share the results..

I didn't do anything except for shutdown the PC and reboot. Once I did that, it appeared it installed the updates. Didn't have to log on as an administrator.
I would wager that you may not be a full administrator, to check:
-Open start menu
-Right click computer
-Click manage
-Expand the Local Users and Groups node
-Click on groups
-Double click the administrators group and ensure your user account is a part of this group.
