LAN ports of Netgear N300 Wireless Router are unresponsive

Hello Everyone,

On 10/30/11, I purchased a wireless-N Netgear router new from Walmart with a 1 year replacement plan.  At any, I am experiencing some technical issues with the LAN ports which will require some assistance in resolving.  Basically, each of the 4 LAN ports are unresponsive and do not light up when an ethernet cable is run from this router to the onboard NIC of my Compaq Deskpro EN computer.  Interestingly, I have a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router which has LAN ports that respond just fine when interfaced with the onboard NIC.  As such, it is reasonable to conclude the onboard NIC is just fine; does not show signs of faultness.  And, the DSL modem which interfaces with the functional Linksys router is working just fine too by allowing internet access both wired and wirelessly.

Hopefully, the information presented will help shed some light on possible troubleshooting options which can be tried out on this Netgear N300 Wireless Router in question.  As indicated, the LAN ports simply are unresponsive as indicated by the absence of any port number light coming on.  With respect to identifying exactly what type of router I have, it is Netgear N300 Wireless Router (S/N: 2JM2165D18C4A) and Model # WNR2000 v3 - 100NAS.  The operating system on the Compaq Deskpro EN computer is Windows XP Pro SP2.

In closing, I look forward to hearing back from  someone regarding any troubleshooting strategies which can be exercised.  Thanks in advance for any help given.

Hi Everyone,

I am very pleased to say this problem is now resolved.  Basically, I resolved this problem by resetting the router back to it original factory default settings as suggested by Thinkpads_User.  With everything powered on and ethernet connected (DSL Modem to Netgear Router, Netgear Router to Onboard NIC of Compaq computer), I simply pressed in the tiny button on the back labeled Restore Factory Settings for 30 seconds and released it using a tiny paper clip.  Then, to my pleasant surprise, I saw the LAN port light turn on.  After overcoming this obstacle, I was able to use the Netgear Resource CD which came with the Netgear router to complete the setup using their easy to follow wizard.  I do want to add toward the end of the installation, the setup failed to detect an internet connection.  Luckly, the Netgear Wizard gave me some suggestions for correcting the issue.  The first suggestion was to power cycle the DSL modem by disconnecting the power, waiting for about 60 seconds, and powering it back on.  Once I did that, the wizard was able to detect an internet connection.  Following the detection of an internet connection, the software also easily allowed me to carry out a firmware update on the router's software as well.

To make a long story short, everything is working great now.  Thanks again for the help everyone.
