do i loose the data on SAN if i formatted the sever that is coonected to it

i have a windows 2003 server attached to a LUN on a HP SAN.i have data residing on this LUN that shows as you know as a partition in the server that is attached to it.i want to do a format this server,i.e. only the C partition on it and i want to reinstall SCSI initiator and reconnect it to the same LUN on the SAN.will i loose the data on SAN and if not will it preserver same NTFS permissions??.Thanks
