NTVDM CPU illegal instruction (16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem)

My Norton recently Quarantined a potential damaging virus.  After this quarantine, at start up I am getting the message posted on the title above.  In addition, the dialogue box also reads the following: C:\WINDOWS\INSTAL~1\{AC76B~1\SC_ACR~1.EXE.

I down loaded "Hijackthis" and have attached the analyzed file.  I am not sure which start up file is causing this error on start up as I am hesitant to delete any start up files since I am not strong in this area.

Can someone please help me ??

Thanks hijackthis.txt

To clarify, the path that you list above is part of Acrobat.  It's the speed launcher or speeder-upper thing.  I don't see it in your hijackthis log so my only thought is to remove and reinstall it.

If you cannot remove it I would suggest using a utility called Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.  If you've never used it before, come back here before you jump in.  It's a potentially damaging program also, just like HiJackThis could be.

From the HJT log it seems you have the Search/Ask toolbar installed and there are some ActiveX entries that look suspect but are probably related to your RSClientPrint 2008 Class.
I wouldn't use HJT to remove the rogue entries but download and install the latest version of Malwarebytes Antimalware to clean this.

Also check you know the computer listed in the Hosts entry

BTW there is a useful online analyser for HJT logs at www.hijackthis.de but if you are unsure what to do with the results always go with a forum post as you have here.

For your specific error you may want to look at this thread on the site

Have a look if it is a more general problem, here is MS document on NTVDM issues:

For starters does a command prompt appear if you type  COMMAND.COM into the run button?

thanks for your assistance.  Unistalling Adobe Acrobat 7 and reinstalling resolved the situation.

Thanks again
