Is there any benefit using a third party application to conserve energy in a Windows 7 environment?

There is a push for energy conservation and some are asking about implementing a third party application to better conserve energy costs.  My question is with the energy features provided in Windows 7 is this really going to save us dollars in energy costs?  Any thoughts, documentation, etc is appreciated
