Are Gmail contacts last name first and first name last?
I have a couple contacts in a list. Some of them are stored as:
Smith, John
whereas others are stored as:
John, Smith
it seems that I have the information in the list in the same way, but Gmail is writing them differently in the contact list.
Does anyone know what is going on? It seems the order of the names is used to label some pictures in picasa and some of the labels look good in some of the labels do not.

My contacts are first name and then last name.
The issue that you have been having is in regards to contact sorting. I can choose to sort my contacts on Gmail by first name or by last name. However, when sorting by last name, the last name comes first followed by the first name.
I was just curious if there was some magical way to let Gmail sort contacts by last name with the standard order (John Doe) instead of the last name first order (Doe, John).

ASKER
hassanwarrich: I was wondering the same thing.
It seems I've entered the names for two of my contacts the same way, but gmail contacts stores one of them:
FN, LN
and the other one:
LN,FN
I guess WHY is the question. My problem with picasa will hopefully be solved if I can get this.

I think I did the third thing:
Entering in the Contacts area by just typing in the name box
I didn't use #1 or #2 for sure. I'll delete and then re-enter some contacts that have "opposite" storage and then report back. I'll do it after lunch.

it seems that I entered some of the names as:
last name, first name
this stores the information properly in the detail section. But in the general listing of all the contacts, it always showed the comma. it always showed the same way, whether you sort by the first name or the last name. I went in and deleted the contact and reentered just the details section and it looked fine then
