Hi LMeyers08,

If at all possible, could you post any specific error? Also maybe include errors from Event viewer. Have you tried connecting to your XP PC via RDP from another Computer or even from your XP PC to any other PC/Server?

ASKER

Message is a pop-up box on the server that I am using to connect to my remote PC.  Says REMOTE DESKTOP DISCONNECTED.  This computer can't connect to the remote computer.  Try again later or contact the owner of the PC.

Keep in mind that I was connected to it earlier, so all the setting are correct on the server and remote PC.

These is nothing in the system/app/security logs on the server for this problem

Also, check whether are you able to ping the server from the system you are trying. Also test it from a different system.
Hi LMeyers08

Like others have said, check you can ping the PC (via its name) first from the server, it may have got a different IP address from DHCP.

It could also be related to port 3389 being used by the Operating system. This situation was an issue with PC's connecting the SBS servers (not 2008 server to PC) but it maybe worth tryinf to reserve port 3389 so no other services use this port.

See below link for this info:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956189

Therefore it may be worth performing the following:

1.Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2.Locate and then click the following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

3.Right-click ReservedPorts, and then click Modify.
4. Type the range of ports that you want to reserve (in your case 3389)

I flushed DNS and deleeted the IP lease for that PC on the server and renewed the IP addedress and was able to connect with no problem.  Thank you all for the help, very many good ideas !!
