Creating a Test Environment using Virtual PC
Hi, i would like to know what the best way of setting up a test environment using virtual pc.
We currently have a large AD structure and we want a safer way of testing Group policy and patches before they are
applied to the live environment. we have been given a server to set this test environment up, however is there a way of copying our current
domain in order to test new apps and play around with group policies without affecting the live environment?
Many Thanks for your help

Thanks again. So could this setup be used to test wsus also? we currently have wsus physical machine. i take it we would need to make a vm.
Thanks again
Thanks again
Yes, although if you required WSUS to download the updates, you would need, to route from your Internal test network to the internet, without causing issues to your production, but this can be done.

ok so far so good, so my next question, how would we route wsus so that it doesnt affect with our Live environment? Thanks again for your help.
I believe your original question has been answered, if you are happy with the answer, please assign points and close this question. "how would we route WSUS so that it does not affect with our Live Environment" is another question, please post a new question and myself of other Expert will be happy to assist.
1. VMware Player 4.0 (Free)

2. VMware Workstatiobn 8.0 ($199)

You can then use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone to "COPY" Servers into your environment to test.
I would recommend and use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 5.0 or 4.3.
