Backup exec failed to backup "Remote Agent not detected on SERVER."

Hi,
I am running Symantec Backup Exec 2010 on a 2003 windows server (server1). I have a remote agent installed on a second server (server2). I am backing up files on server1 and server2 for some time now with no problems till now.

I keep getting error:
"Remote Agent not detected on server1". "Final error: 0xe000846b - The resource could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Backup Exec for Windows Servers Remote Agent.
Make sure that the correct version of the Remote Agent is installed and running on the target computer.  If the server or resource no longer exists, remove it from the selection list. Edit the selection list properties, click the View Selection Details tab, and then remove the resource.
Final error category: Resource Errors

I can see that server2 has backed up successfully in the same job. I tried creating a new job to different media only selecting server1, and running a repair with no luck.

The strangest part for me is that server2 that is on the network backup fine but server1 "the host" is not working.

Any suggestions will be helpful.
thanks

update/re-install the backup agent on server1 - check the application and system event log of the server for any other problems.

update/reinstall.
make sure you can connect (ping) server
check firewall/virus scan
On the BE 2010 server and the other server, make sure that both are running the same BE Agent version.  Is your BE server set to run update automatically?

You can always re-deploy the BE agent to the other server and that way it will have the latest agent.  You have to reboot the after the new agent is installed.

Server1 is the server running Backup Ex (host/media server).
When I try updating get Error: BE failed to register with LiveUpdate. Ensure that the latest version of LiveUpdate is installed. I tried to reinstall LiveUpdate but keep getting Error: File is corrupt. This is the case for 3.3 and 3.5
I tried reinstalling (add remove prog/ change/ reinstall) but this also did not work.
Sometimes BE is reporting the file is corrupted but it might not be.  If you server is blocked by antivirus software or proxy, it would report such error message.  Can you disable any antivirus software.

Also, before re-install the live update agent again, please delete the content of this folder \All Users\ApplicationData\Symantec\LiveUpdate.
Hi,
I don't have any proxy's servers and temporarily removed the AV, I have deleted the old live update directory and did the backups again with no luck.

I reinstalled and reconfigured BE completely but still getting the having the same problem.
One thing on my mine is that could this be happening as a result of the licensing for the agent expired? If so how do I check if has expired? Do I even need a agent on the host/media server?
Within you BE software, there is a tool called "Backup Exec License Assessment Tool".  Run that and it will report the status of your licensing.  You must run this on your Media Server.
