SCCM 2007 - System Centre - Rolling out Chained/Linked Software Packages

Hi,

(Bear with me as I explain the steps up to my actual issue)

I've created a linked SCCM software package that includes 5 different exe's/msi's that are needed for a software VoiP package to run on Win XP.

To test the linked software package install I have one test machine - a single Windows XP VM hosted on a VMWare ESXi 5 host. I have installed the SCCM client on this VM, and created a base snapshot that I can roll back to if the chain install fails at any point.

Test Install 1: In my first test run, the first exe in the chain installed correctly, but the second failed due to a missing Office 2007 service pack (a prerequisite for that exe).

I rolled my XP VM back to the base snapshot, installed the Office service pack, and made this the updated base Win XP VM snapshot.

(Here's the actual issue)
Test Install 2: On attempting to roll the chained package out to the updated base XP VM, it looks like the SCCM client is doing nothing. All the C:\Windows\System32\CMM\Excemgr.log has is:

_______________________________________________________
Software Distribution Site Settings for the client are missing from WMI.
Software Distribution Site Settings for the client are missing from WMI
Common Client Agent Settings for the client are missing from WMI.
Software distribution agent was enabled
The user has logged off.
A user has logged on.

I've browsed to the package collection and atttempted to manually kick off the install.
I've opened up Configuration manager on the XP VM and attempted to initiate the package install, but nothing is happening.
I've removed the XP VM from the Collection and readded it.

Do I need to uninstall and reinstall the SCCM agent?
How can I force the System Centre agent to reinitiate the package install?

Hi,

Before re installing the client, please do a repair of the client from the XP machine, which will register the missing components.

Regards,
Ren.

@xxdcmast: Thanks for your tips. I modified the advertisement as described, but no luck. An uninstall and reinstall of the SCCM client fixed the issue, but I don't know what was actually causing the problem.

@renjitharavind: I did try that step but unfortunately it did not get the agent to restart the package install.
