PowerPoint Graphic
Good day!
I am using PowerPoint 2007. I have a slide with a dark background (see attached). I have inserted a graphic of a helmet. The helmet has a white background. How can I get rid of the white background so I only see the helmet? Is there a utility within PowerPoint that can do this or must I use a third party software? If I have to use a third-party software can you recommend something free (or of low cost)?
Thanks

Hello,
You can set one color of the image to be transparent, but in this particular case setting the color white to transparent won't help much because of the shadow and the soft blends of white into darker colors.
If you cannot find an image with a transparent background, you need proper photo editing software like Photoshop, The Gimp, Fireworks, etc, to cut out the motif and place it on a transparent background.
cheers, teylyn

Thank you very much!!!!!
I'll assume the helmet picture is a JPG. Probably the easiest way is to import the image into a 3rd party program, edit out the background and save it as a transparent GIF or PNG. PowerPoint can edit images but not to this extent. Once done, insert the new image into PowerPoint.
A good free program to do this is Paint.net.
