receipt printer in system/36
I am currently having issues printing receipts to a HP Laserjet p2035 on a System/36 platform. The printer is connected to a dummy terminal that is connected directly to the sys/36 via Twinax cable.
I know very little about the system. We print a receipt in the system and the receipt does not print until someone prints the next receipt. The missing job does not appear in the print queue. My assumption is that the job is sent to the printer and sits there until the next job is sent.
I have taken the printer and connected it to a win xp computer and have no issues. HELP!

A *real* S/36? What machine-type/model? For example 5360-D23. When did it start behaving like this? What changed? This S/36 has probably been there doing this job for twenty years - it would be strange if it had always been doing it incorrectly.
Has it always had a laser printer attached? S/36's originally had line printers, so it would print things line by line. Whereas laser printers are page printers.
My initial guess is the S/36 is assuming line printer and the 1st piece of data is a command to go to the top of form and then it prints line 1-n. Laser printers typically don't print a page until it gets an end of job, form feed, top of form, or some other command that says go to the next page.
Most likely you are getting receipt #1 printed when #2 goes, because #2 is telling it to go to the top of the next page.
Some how the program that is printing the receipt needs to be changed to send something telling the printer that it is done at the end of the print process.

We have replaced it with a laser printer, I am not entirely sure they type of printer that was there before. Giltjr, your assumption was one that I made, I will look and let you know!

Do either of you have a recommendation on a printer to test with?
