can sysadmin access database that's not mapped?

Basic security question.  We have a user that has been assigned the sysadmin user role for his sql account.  He's only been mapped to one database.  I'm wondering if he can access other databases that he has not been mapped to.

We're running Microsoft SQL 2005 STD.

What do you SQL experts out there think?
