Looking to new Entry Level Server
I have a small office customer that needs to replace his old Windows 2003 Server. His office setup is as follows:
HP Server running Windows Server 2003 SP2
1-GB RAM, Intel Xeon 2.4GHz dual processor
Server has qty-2 SCSI 30-GB hard drives which are mirrored
Server runs Great Plains v. 7.5 on SQL Server 2000
HP RDX is running the backup
Office is made up of 7 WIndows XP/7 workstations, mainly accessing the Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains database. They would love to be able to just use the same Server OS, SQL, and Great Plains software version that they are using now so they can avoid spending a lot more money. Probably would like to still have 2 mirrored (4drives) on the new server. I don't think they need multiple processors…would probably be looking at a quad core Xeon, maybe the E5520. They would like to keep the budget (hardware and software) around $2K.
What would you recommend?

If the old server was up to the job but just too old then something cheap such as ProLiant MicroServer would do.

How about you unburden them from hw maintnenance and have them switch to cloud services - unless you want to maintain a server there?

If they were to switch, what cloud product would u recommend? they want low maintenance
Dell 3xx series would probably suffice and goes for about half that budget..
