Cisco 2960 gives each 3 min in syslog a notice of lineprotocol
Hi,
we have a cisco 2960 within our network which reports each 3 to 5 min a notice with the following information :
%LineProto-5-UpDown: Line protocol on Interface FastEthernet 0/24 changed to state up
then again
%LineProto-5-UpDown: Line protocol on Interface FastEthernet 0/24 changed to state down
I guess this is not normal ??? Shall I worry about it? how can I fix it?
Regards,
David

What is connected to the interface? That would most likely determine the interfaces status. Sometime pc with power saving features on their nic cards can cause notifications like this.
In my experience, this is normal.

Hi thanks for all your answers.
In fact, on this port, there is a printer. And as I mentioned, this port is all the time up/down each 3-4 minutes... and as I've from time to time some slowliness over the network, I was wondering if it could be somehow linked.
so all normal I guess? even if done each 3/4 minutes during all day?

mmm I see, let me investigate which printer is concern and I'll get back to you.
hi, i believe it often happens with printer, you may try and tune the standby-timeout of the printer, but not too much, otherwise the printer will get too warm

It's an old printer doing all this thing and it was due to the sleep mode. Thanks again for your quick replies ;)
