computer freezes and getting Warning! CPU has been changed!
hi experts,
I have this shuttle pc running windows XP Pro that keeps freezing. At first I thought it was the hard drive but I changed it and during the installation of a new OS it still frooze. I then tried to clone the hard drive and it frooze again. Can this be the memory? Also when I boot up I get this error no matter how many times I go in the cmos and re-enter CPU settings.
CMOS checksum error- defaults loaded
Warning! CPU has been changed.
Please re-enter CPU settings in the CMOS setup and remember to save before quit.

I fully agree with garycase, replace the CMOS battery then input all your settings back in and you should be good-to-go. If for some reason that doesnt work, you've got more serious problems with the motherboard.

ok, so I changed the cmos battery and i was getting same responsed " computer freezing". I had a spare CPU here and I swapped that and it seems to be running ok for now. I'm going to let it run for a couple of hours and I'll keep you guys posted.
looks like it wanted the cpu changed...lol

Thank you, it looks like it was the CPU.
If that's failed, the CMOS won't retain the settings -- which could be why you're seeing this issue.
If that's not it, you likely have some other hardware issue. Examine the motherboard VERY carefully (use a magnifying glass) for boated or leaking capacitors => capacitor failure is the #1 reason for motherboard failures.
