Galaxy Tab or Ipad for video kids in car?

Hi,

I was thinking of buying an Ipad or Galaxy Tab for mounting into the car and playing videos.
This because kids do not watch a lot video in car (only on holidays) and it's a shame paying for small tv's which are hardly every used. A tab-pc I have some fun from it too ;-)

Just wanted to know:
-Galaxy Tab: you can add an external USB and play video's from it?
-can it read from NTFS
-can it read mkv files (I have some bluerays in that format)
-I have a NAS, can it play video's from a share on this NAS?

If an Ipad can do this, for me ok, but how to play external conten (I could only put max. a few bluerays on the Ipad) ... and it should be jailbroken too (or can it be done with extra apps)?

Any input is welcome!

There is an adapter to allow you to connect external drives such as a thumb drive to your Galaxy Tab.

The Tab cannot play mkv files.

You would need to jailbreak the iPad to allow you.to mount an external drive.
Agreed with the above.

The iPad would not be the ideal choice for what you plan to do with a tablet.

Apple TV lets you broadcast stuff from the iPad to your Home TV and other devices, however Apple is closed source and you would have to void warranties and such to jailbreak it.

I would say that a true tablet PC/laptop would be the better choice for your situation.

Just my opinion though.
A followup

You cannot play 1080p mkv files bit you can play 720p mkv files with third party software called Dice Player
I would go Tab, if for nothing else so that you never, ever have to touch the dreaded iTunes!

Also, the open-ness of the Android eco system is very nice, and the Galaxy is a very slick device. I know a few people who love theirs.

ASKER

So:
- I will have to convert these videos or can it play it into a lower resolution (Tab)?
-can the Tab play from a NAS/shared drive?
-can the Tab read from NTFS external USB drive?

I use IPAD , I'm already downloaded all of their favorite videos using "Download" program and having fun.
