Dell PowerEdge 2950 has error: E2119 fatal sb mem crc
Hello,
We have a Dell PowerEdge 2950 with an amber readout on the LCD that says: e2119 fatal sb mem crc. From what I've read, this indicates "One of the connections in the FBD memory subsystem link on the Southbound side has failed." Does this indicate a motherboard problem? Or perhaps just a faulty DIMM? If I need to swap out DIMMs a pair at a time, which ones do I target first? (Which ones are on the southbridge?) What's strange is that, while the OpenManage log does indeed show a "Mem Fatal SB CRC: Memory sensor, uncorrectable ECC was asserted" error, OpenManage doesn't show any problems under the memory section, it says all is well, but the front panel still has the error. I've tried Memtest, and it goes through a few of it's tests without error, but there's quite a bit of RAM on board so I don't really have the 4+ hours it would take to complete all passes. The system also appears to be running normally, no instability to speak of. So I'm not sure what's going on here.

Does the server happen to be under warranty with Dell? Have you tried DSET http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/en/dell_system_tool

The server is just out of warranty. Does Dell allow for an extension after the warranty period has lapsed? When I go to that page, it takes me to the general download page for the server. I have run online diagnostics, no problems reported there either.

I shuffled the RAM around and reseated everything. Turned the server back on and all appears to be well.
