Set up 30" Monitor with 2560 X 1600 Resolution

I have a Desktop with GeForce 8400 GS Graphics card and have just purchased a Dell 3008 30" Monitor.

I have connected the Monitor with a DVI cable and when I open the NVIDIA COntroll panes (OR the Windows Screen Resolution WIndow) I can set the Resolution to 2560 X 1600 But it is Unreadable!

Do I need a Different Cable?

Also the Monitor gets Quite Hot (The top of the Monitor gets to arround 35deg is this Normal?)

Watch Question

You need a Dual Link DVI cable, and make sure the video card has a dual link DVI port. The temp sounds normal. Its a bit hotter than my 25" but the 30" uses more power which equals more heat.
The 3008 also uses displayport which will do the 2560x1600 resolution.

What is a "Dual Link" DVI cable?

How do I tell if the video card port is Dual Link?
It's a dvi cable that can handle twice the normal bandwidth of a standard DVI cable. Dual link dvi is requires for resolutions of 2560x1600 @60Hz or for 120Hz 3D monitors. While Nvidias reference design for the 8400GS has dual link support, I would check the video cards manufacture to make sure, but most likely it does have a dual link port.
