admin rights required tp open winrar and PCanywhere

admin rights required tp open winrar files.

I have deployed windows 7 through WDS which has PCAnywhere and winrar installed

but users cannot open pcanywhere and winrar files without admin rights.

Anyone can help to open these 2 without admin rights?

By any chance, did you configure a profile with admin privileges and manually copy it over the Default user profile?
MASEE Solution Guide - Technical Dept HeadAuthor Commented:
If I give admin rights to a user and try to open winrar file system will prompt 'do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher..... this computer' with options 'yes' or 'no '

I want the same way for all users without admin rights
Run5kCommented:
That's understandable, but I'm trying to help you determine why the applications are behaving differently for standard users and my question still remains:  before you deployed Windows 7, did you configure a profile with admin privileges and manually copy it over the Default user profile?

I took image of a work-group PC and not a domain added

User in that PC will have admin rights I guess

If you don't mind me saying so, it's a rather bold step to give end-users full admin rights on their machines.  It could lead to a great deal of troubleshooting.

Before you deployed that Windows 7 image, did you configure a profile with admin privileges and manually copy it over the Default user profile?  Did you make any changes to the Default user profile?

no

Remove both softwares , and reinstall them back from admin user, while asks for do u want this application to run for other users, say yes,
if this didnt solve, put the users in power user group and dt way it will sure work , ;)

I added a test user to power users group. no luck

Just for giggles, run this , nd see if you can identify WHERE (if anything) the permissions are hosed......

Process Monitor
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/processmonitor.mspx

Save this to the root of C as an Admin, and login the problem user. Do a RunAs with your Admin Credentials to launch it, and then set the the filter at the top to Include "Result" is "Access Denied" then "Include", and then try and recreate the errors by launching the app. Then go look at the logging, and it will tell you where the permissions are restrictive. Once you open those up, keep retrying until you get the desired results....

Keep track of your changes, as they can be scripted to deploy to the other

The URL you posted above is wrong I think

My company is running PCAnywhere 12.5 as well, and I found the same issue; either it requires admin credentials to run, or if user has local admin rights then they are simply prompted to allow program to run.

I spoke with Symantec regarding this, and they said this is by design.  The only way around it is if you go into the host properties, you can set it to run on startup.  see attached.

I can't speak for the winRAR piece...

err...That should be "Launch with Windows", as I have circled.  Not run on startup as I said above.

Symantec problem solved

What about winrar?
johnb6767Commented:
There should be an easier way for the app to run as a limited user..... I know we are dealing with Symantec and all....

Here is a proper link for Process Monitor....
