Cannot connect to SQL Express

I installed SQL express on my PC and also have VS 2008 so I use SQL express for developing when I reboot my computer everything is great but if I don't use it for a few hours I can't connect to the DB through both VS or SSMS.
I have went and tried to start the SQL Service again but it will not start and I have to reboot my computer again then it works great until the next time I leave it alone for a few hours.

Does anybody have any ideas what causes this.

Check your firewall. It is probably blocking sql traffic.

I honestly don't know what has happen, I have check everything you mention except the Firewall and strangely I don't remember changing anything but my development computer has been running now for 4 days without being rebooted and I can still use SQL express.
I'm sure I must of done something in your notes without realising so I can only think of one fair way and that is to split the points

I am not 100% sure what fixed the problem as I read and checked all 3 experts suggestions
