GTX550 or GTX560

My current video card (nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS) is dead. Given my system (Duo Core E6750 running at 2.66GHz and 4 GB RAM), my local hardware guy advises either the GTX550 (160 euro) or a GTX560 (230 euro).

I have two questions:

1) Is the GTX560 worth the extra money?
2) Is the GTX560 the best choice given my system?

To give an idea of how I intent to use the card: one of the games I like to play is Assassins Creed Revelations.

Correction, I actually have three options:

GTX 550 Ti (160 euro)
GTX 560 (230 euro)
GTX 560 Ti (280 euro)

Both will cope with Assassin's Creed, and with better performance than you are used to with the 8800.  They have much the same features, IIRC the only thing that the 560 has that the 550 lacks is support for the new 3D Vision Surround standard. Otherwise they do the same things with the 560 doing them about 15-20% faster.  Bear in mind the 560 is much more power hungry (needs two separate 6 pin feeds from the PSU) and is a bigger card at around 10" which may be an issue fitting it in your case depending on what make of 8800 you're swapping it for.

IMHO if you can afford the difference it'll probably give you an edge on FPS with its higher bandwidth but it's not taking you to another level of gaming.

So a bit faster but that's about it.

Just read your second post.

I was basing the above on the TI versions
