Acer AL2017A Monitor Will Not Power On After Connecting It To A Windows 7 OS...

Hello EE,

I have TWO AL2017A monitors which is not powering up when the power on button is depressed.  At times I can see a faint Amber LED next to the Power On button, but that turns off after about 3-5 minutes.  The monitor was working very well on a Windows XP OS, but started acting strange after I connected it to a Windows 7 system.  I suspect that the unit is in some sort of  'power saver' mode and i can not get it out of that mode.
. I have connected this monitor to an XP OS with both the VGA and the DVID cables = No change.
. I have power the monitor on with the video cables installed and removed = No change.
. Some times if I remove the AC plug and wait for about 30 seconds and reconnect, a bright AMBER LED will
turn on, but this happens very rarely.

NOTE: I am currently testing these monitors on a Dell GX620 running Windows XP.

?Is there some some way to reset this monitor to factor defaults so that i can use this on my Windows XP system?
?Can these types of Monitors be reset?
?Is it worth trying to fix these model of monitors?
?Should I just trash these?

Inuring minds would like to know.

test also on another pc, to be sure where the problem lies : in the PC, or monitor
in many cases, the monitors can be repaired -  they often just have a couple of bad capacitors (swollen or leaking)
i repaired my monitor (belkin) myself like that

Is your graphics driver updated ? Check drivers are properly installed. If not install the proper driver.
Try booting in the safemode.

most screens have an OSD menu to reset it - check your manual

Hello EE,

Et al, thank you for your suggestions and I will try to implement them.

With the current situation with these monitors connected to the system, I do not even see the BIOS boot information or the standard Dell Logo, nothing - the Green LED that generally indicates Video Sync with the PC never comes on.

Last night I disconnected the VGA cable from the PC (Dell GX620) and removed the AC from the monitor for about 30 seconds and reconnected and let it sit.  I came back and the Power LED was a bright Yellow.  I then connected the VGA cable and turned on the PC = the LED went out and after 8 hours, has not come back.  This is very strange.

The suggestion of the swallow and leaky caps prompted me to check the serial numbers of these units as they are the same model:
  Unit #1 = ETL69090677320082B6312 (Manufactured: 2007/08/08/SNID = 73200209163)
  Unit #2 = ETL69090677320082D6312 (Manufactured: 2007/08/08/SNID = 73200209363)
WOW, these puppies were made very close to each other and now this is starting to make some sense.
. I will take about one of the monitors down to the PCA and power supply and check for any  swallow and leaky caps - good suggestion.

Does anyone know if Acer sells replacement parts for these monitors and if their parts are expensive - i can replace this unit for about $120.00, so I am wondering if pushing to that point is going to be worth it.

EE,

I dismantled one of the units down to the PCAs and the Delta PCA (Power Supply, maybe a DAC ??) does have 3 or 4 caps which the silver discs on top are popped out.

At this point, is it suggested to replace the caps or to replace the PCA.  The PCA is very accessible and is made with discrete components and nothing high tech, so removing and installing the new caps would not be difficult.

PCA Part Number = Delta = DAC-19M005

EE,

I am going to close this case as I have all the information I need.  I found several companies that sell the DAC-19M005 CF PCA and I have contacted them to confirm that their Rev-A will be a suitable replacement for the Rev-03A that I have.

For the record, I found these vendor in Ebay by using 'DAC-19M005 CF'.

Once again, thank you for your time and suggestions.
