Ajax and javascript fire multi events

I've got a data call ajax routine and a image change javascript routine on the page referenced below. The image change JS is on thumbnail click. The ajax is triggered by changing the color select list. I'd like both event to occur with either trigger.

I've tried to invoke both routines without luck.

onclick="showDetail(22718);return hs.expand(this, inPageOptions)"

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If you visit the link I provided it should be clearer.

the page has two actions:
1. Clicking one of the small images (thumbnail) will change the big image via javascript.

2. Changing the value of the color select list will trigger the ajax routine and change the value in the text form fields under the select list.

I would like to combine the actions so they both occur on either trigger.
so...
click the red thumbnail (or whichever) and the big image changes to the red image and the select list changes to the red list item and the form field data changes to the red data.

Change the select list to the red (or whichever) and the big image changes to the red and the select list changes to the red list item and the form field data changes to the red data..
