I have installed ultravnc viewer but I can not get it to connect to any pc's on my network. we are on server 2008 and connect to pc's via a computer name.
I have looked at other computers configuration but I can not see anything obvious. I spoke to my colleague and they suggested that there was an option to connect to a security group under properties but i can not find this?
any ideas?

HI Again,
I ahve just been looking at the settings and discovered what it is under options and misc share the server should be ticked.
But i have another ptoblem now when I type what i think the password is it rejects the password and tells me that i cant connect?
how can i clear this error and get the password to work?

1) Are you able to ping those machines using machine names? using machine names to ping is the best thing to be used to ping an machine to find out if the machine name can be resolved perfectly & the machine is reachable over the network.
2) Do you have a dns server ?
3) Which firewall are you using ?
4) Is everyone connected on the same local switch on which you are trying to connect to ?
5) Which is the hardware firewall that you are using ?

yes i am able to ping the machine ok
the previous IT person setup and configured ultra vnc and it does work ok for other computers but not the new ones that I am setting up?

It sounds you went passed "contacting" the machine . What's the error message ?

sorry incorrect error message it should be: wrong password authentication failed. Even though I am using the correct password.

i was able to look at the privledges under the user and add remote networking and now it works

I am able to run mstsc and connect to another pc ok.
the computer doesnt have a fixed IP address, and so I couldnt ping it.
how do i open the port that vnc uses?
