Move Certification Authority

Hi All,

I am in the process of decomissioning an old Domain controller but I have noticed that it is the certification authority for the domain.

Is there an easy way to move this service to a different DC in the same domain?

Cheers

Moving CA to another server is always complicated. What is the OS on which CA is installed currently? and what is the Windows folder Path.?

Morning, thanks for your reply.

The server is Win 2003 SP2, I think the path is:

c:\windows\system32\certsrv\certnenroll\

Small query, what is the reason for decom this DC?

very old hardware + company is relocating and relying on VM Ware so this DC is not part of the plan.

I assume you are planning it to move to 2003 server. If yes? follow this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/298138

Secondly, in VMware there is an option from P2V. You can move physical server to a Virtual platform and increase the hardware. Also make sure FSMO roles are not hosted on this box, if so move it to another DC.
