OCR web service or SDK

Can anyone point me to possible OCR SDKs or web services that can have a very good success rate with numbers in images?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Several ideas:

(1) Take a look at FreeOCR.net, which has a list of free OCR packages available to download:

(2) GOCR/JOCR is an open source OCR package developed under the GNU Public License:

(3) Another open source package (now maintained by Google) is the Tesseract OCR Engine:

(4) SimpleOCR is not open source, but it is free, with both an end-user version and a royalty-free SDK:

They all have good reputations for OCR accuracy, although I can't say specifically with respect to numbers in images. Best thing to do is test them all and see which is best on your sample images. Regards, Joe
