Why does my new gmail account have extra icons in top right?

I just opened a new Gmail account, and in the top right corner I have  some extra icons that I don't see in my other Gmail account.
extra iconsWhat are they and how can I get rid of them?

it is the new gmail look and it gets rolled out slowly. so you might find that one of your ids has the new look but the other will take a few more days/weeks to appear.

It's part of the new Gmail look (although some existed before in different locations).

and nope you won't be able to get rid of it. it is part of the gmail features. namely the new google plus integration.

But my other account also shows the new look!
These icons are annoying, as I don't use Google+ so they just get in my way and make it more tedious to sign out.
You're saying that there's no way to fix it, and that my other account will get them too?

you could delete your google plus. but the gear for the settings etc are the changes that are permanent changes from gmail. These will rollout to others as well.

There is nothing to fix because nothing is broken, that is the new layout.  Eventually all accounts will have the new look and it will be permanent.  For the time being you can temporarily revert to the old look -- http://techably.com/2011/11/revert-gmail-older-version/

Log in to your Gmail account and click on the gear icon at the far right in the mail-navigation menu.
A pop-out menu will appear. Click “Revert to the old look temporarily”.
In the next dialogue, click the button saying “Revert to the old look temporarily” again. You’ll be redirected to the older version of Gmail.
