Do you use a third party program such as PDF Creator or Cute PDF?

For the Office 2007 we have the pdf plugin, but for 2010 it was built in and was working

Also note that if you have an older version of Adobe Acrobat Standard or Professional (i.e.version 7.x) or earlier, it is know to conflict;  you should upgrade to a newer version of Acrobat if that's the case.

We do not have any version of Acrobat installed on these machines

OK.  If you haven't already tried, power cycle the computer that's having the problem (shutdown, wait a minute, then power back on).

Once the computer comes back up, click START, then RUN, then type in APPWIZ.CPL and click OK.
This will launch the Add/Remove Programs control panel.
Scroll down to Microsoft Office 2010, and click on it once to highlight it.
Once highlighted, click on on the CHANGE button.
From the Office setup window, select REPAIR, then click CONTINUE.
Follow the wizard through the repair process.  Once complete, you will probably be prompted to reboot again.

Hopefully that will resolve your Save As PDF issue.

Does that happen to all documents or just a specific one? If its all documents try running Microsoft Office Diagnostics. Start Menu > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools > Microsoft Office Diagnostics

Silly question but are you writing to the same file and location each time? this file is not opened already right?

Did you check the location of the file that is being produced. Perhaps an issue with that?

Did you try reinstalling the plugin for 2007?

Yes I have tried different machines with different versions, I found an interesting article saying that Microsoft disabled this feature due to a security hole and that Microsoft is going to be pushing a patch. Not sure how correct that is.

the patch they pushed did not solve this issue, so I am still stuck with not be able to save as a PDF in both the 2007 and the 2010 versions of Office, with and without the plugin. I hope there is a fix out there.

Maybe in the interim you something like cutepdf. That is basically a pdf print driver.

Reading this here, it talked about default printer settings. pdf process fails if b&w printer set as defaulted. Never experienced that but some say it worked for them when they changed the printer. Care to give it a try?

The only thing to do is to use another program for this, I have tried everything to fix and nothing works.
