network computers

hi all, is it possible for one in a domain network to see which computers were left on, even if you
don't know the device name or ip?  this would be to manage some pc's after hours... or is there a start-up command which one can sent via the network cable... I'm not sure if wake on LAN should be enabled for this

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Have you looked into Spiceworks?  www.spiceworks.com

Wake on LAN would need to be enabled on the PC's if you want to be able to turn them on for updates, etc.
