SharePoint 2010 Office File Launch vs. Open in Hyperlink
I sometimes find that a document that is referenced in a hyperlink launches the save/saveas dialog and other times it opens the document in the associated document editor (excel, word...).
I need to add hyperlinks that launch the saveas dialog. Can someone explain how to ensure this behavior?

The hyperlinks on a an aspx page that I built that has and image and an image map. The area tags within the map tag have the hyperlinks.
Zip files tied to hyperlinks open the save as dialog whereas office documents do not.

well, the case now looks more related to client settings. I would check browser configuration. for IE it is in Internet Options/Programs/Internet Programs/File association...
probably if you remove mapping of Word office application here, your documents will display Save As dialog as well. Not sure but you can try.
