I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

unfortunately, the only way for you to log back into your machine is by logging in as the local admin account...that is if you haven't changed the local admin account's name into something else....

close if you like, but there are a few things left to do if all you need is a username....
#1  boot to safe mode and select the admin account at login.  this assumes you know the password, or if it's blank...
#2 using a usb-to-to ide/sata adapter you can connect the hard drive to another pc... browse it to c:\documents and settings\  and you should see the folders with your username...
just trying to help... good luck!

If you use a boot disc utility, it's possible for you to get the local admin account and reset the password.  There's a few places to get a nice boot disc.  I personally like hirens.  http://www.hirensbootcd.org/
