add environment variables via GPO or registry

Hello,

I need to add a path as a system variable. Can I do that via GPO, registry or any other means?

Thanks!

Yes, you can do that using GPO, more specifically saying by Group Policy Preferences (GPP)
You can add environment variable using GPP.

To be able to apply GPP to XP clients, you need to instal Client Side Extension (CSE) first. It can be downloaded from
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=3628

or can be pushed via WSUS
