Export Import Lotus Notes local address book

I have a case where I upgraded a user Lotus Notes client to 8.5.2 but his local address book stays on the old template while mine got upgraded, the only difference is I installed the full Client, Designer, and Admin on mine while his is only Basic and for whatever reason it seems his local address book keeps getting additional entries from our company address book.

I am thinking at this point to export all of his contacts out, delete his local address book, create a new one with 85 template, then import the contacts. How can I do that?

   Hi there coronoahcoro,,,

In fact, what comes to my mind in this case are the following :

Firstly,,, have a back up of the Address book ( names.nsf ) somewhere on the users PC ...
- Open the local Address book ( Names.nsf ) .
- File-- Application-- Refresh Design ( Wait until it is completed )
- File-- Application-- Replace  Design ,,, On the Template Server select " Local"  (Personal Address Book  ( Pernames.ntf)) ( Wait until it is completed )
- Rebuild the views ( Ctrl+ Shift + F9 ) ( Wait until it is completed )
Check if every thing is OK ,,, if not you can put the LN client down then reput the backed up Address book in the LN client folder ....

Secondly,,, you can instead use another way apart from  the first one ...
-You can just open the users Local Address Book
- copy all the existing data lets say to you Address book
- Delete it ( names.nsf )...." Make sure you have a backup of this names.nsf ".
- Then start the LN client and a new one will be created .

Best Wishes

His personal address book is replicating from your company address book?

Is there any chance his personal address book is a replica of the company one? Depending on your settings, it is possible to make a replica of any database and not replicate the ACL.

The replica settings may not be accepting design changes. The local would accept record changes but not update the design.

Hi
Make a new Database (CTRL-N): File Name: names_new.nsf and choose the personal addressbook template (pernames.ntf)
copy all the contacts, location and connection documents to the new database.
shut down notes. rename names.nsf to names_old.nsf, and names_new.nsf to names.nsf
restart notes.

It might be that the user's template was not replaced with the new design. check first if the users pernames.ntf matches your version.

Apparently when I export/import contacts, it did not do it for the groups also. How can I export/import the groups?

Commented:
I hope I really got you right .....

- if you meant you would like to export groups and have them listed in a table ,,, just select the " Groups" on the left pane then ...
-File
-Export
-Tabular Text  Then you can save it on the Desktop and open it using an Excel Sheet or IBM Symphony etc.

But ,,,,,,,
- if you the contacts with in each group ,,, IMHO you have to open each group then do the same thing ...
-File
-Export
-Tabular Text  Then you can save it on the Desktop and open it using an Excel Sheet or IBM Symphony etc.

I hope this helps

Best Wishes

I meant to export/import my contacts from one PC to another. I see that there is export/import options for the contacts but not the group.

The solution to export the group into tabular text does not give me a list of the member of the group.

Just take your names.nsf file to the other computer.  Call it "old_names.nsf" or similar and browse to open it.  Highlight documents you want -- groups, contacts or whatever.  Copy to clipboard.  Open your own address book and paste.
