IPad 2 won't turn on

Hello Experts

My customer's VP has an iPad 2.  I'm told it suddenly went blank on her last night.  Early this morning, it came back on, but then did the same thing.  It appears to be charging though.  I need to bring this thing back to life and not reset it so the VP doesn't lose her apps and data.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Connect it to your customers VP's computer with their iTunes account.  Does the PC/Mac mount/recognize the iPad? If yes does iTunes? If yes do a backup without trying or testing anything else.

Press and hold Power and Home buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds. This will power-cycle the device without removing any of the data. If that doesn't work, I would recommend backing up, wiping, and restoring the data as suggested by Darbid73.

I had a similar problem.  I did the power-cycle and as described by multifunctional then I did a backup, reset and then restored form the backup and had no additional problems.

Connecting to iTunes, an error is generated.  "iTunes could not connect to the iPad "name" because an invalid response was received from the device."

Did you do the reset/power cycle first?

To restart iPad, first turn iPad off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPad will turn off after a few moments.

Next, turn iPad on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

Is iPad not responding? To reset iPad, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

If the iPad does not turn on or displays a red battery icon, try recharging next.

I got the reset/power cycle done.  It's responding now.  I'm backing up the iPad and going to install versoin 5.0.1 on it.  Unless there is a reason not to.

back up - back up - back up. :-)  especially when it is not yours and they are relying on you to save all their data.

I did the backup.  I'm new to the whole Apple products (shock horror gasp), so bear with me when I ask this.  Will updating to 5.0.1 wipe anything?  Like I said, I already did a back up.

No, you won't lose any apps or data with the upgrade to 5.0.1 but as darbid mentioned  backup before you do this step

You won't lose anything because it will restore from iTunes but some of the saved settings and preferences get reset with the upgrade to 5.01.  You may lose any saved passwords for web sites as Safari gets a bit of makeover.
