Please help with iis 7 SBS 2011 "Invalid Application Path" error when testing Authentication.

I recently deployed SBS 2011 with no problems. Everything worked including OWA. I installed the latest MS updates. After rebooting I recived a message warning me to run PSConfig utility to complete updates on SharePoint. I ran PSConfig successfully but after that I could not open the Exchage Management Consloe. That is when the trouble began. I followed some troubleshooting tips that have made things worse. OWA and Exchange Power Shell no longer works. I went in to iis manager and found there is a problem with all of the virtual directories under the Default Web Site. When testing authentication, I get the error "There was an error performing the operation. Details: Invalid Application Path. All of the application paths are correct. All of the associated application pools are correct. I would reinstall iis but I'm afraid it will break Exchange and SharePoint. If reinstalling iis is the only option, how do I do it without breaking things. Is there a way to "reset" the Default Web Site?

Any help would be appreciated!

Check and see if you have any backups that IIS normally creates using the command
%windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe list backup
If you see any backups that shows should solve your issue run
%windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe restore backup "<Backup Name>"

Hope this helps!!

ASKER

I did find some restores. I tried several restores but none of them resolved the issue. I'm thinking this might be more of a permission issue with an "account" or "identity" that has lost an inheritad permission or something to that extent. Pass through authentication does not work. I've been warned NOT to un-install/re-install iis on an SBS server and I agree there.

Thank you for the help saakar!
