Wanting to download firmware upgrades from the Cisco website but they ask for a service contract number etc, surely there must be an easier way to obtain these ?

Hi Jack..... hijack! Aaaaaaaah!

But seriously. You always need a smartnet to be able to download images. What you could do is find the cheapest possible smartnet. This would still give you access to the downloads.

dont forget that Cisco is nowadays warning you that you may only download software which is bound to the SmartNet contract. I believe there is a counter, which at a certain point wil trigger an alert if you download many different software components. So be aware of this and read the warnings carefully when downloading.
