Do you have a standby supervsior module?  It sounds like it may not have the same boot parameters as the primary module.  Try the steps here to view how the standby card is configured - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_tech_note09186a00803e5282.shtml#topic2

Just one supervisor in the chassis right now.

The sup originally had a CATOS IOS and was converted to IOS.

Do I need to get rid of the command: boot system sup-bootdisk:s3223-ipbasek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF17.bin

I don't know if I have a sup-bootdisk: anymore?

Router(config)#do dir /all

At the Romon prompt I can type boot and it will load s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI3.bin

I would like for it to boot automatically after a reload or power loss and not sit at the romon prompt.

Commented:
This line may be the problem then:
BOOT variable = sup-bootdisk:s3223-ipbasek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF17.bin,12;disk0:s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI3.bin,1;

The bootvar should be pointing to only s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI3.bin, if that's the version of IOS it's now running.

Do I change the BOOT variable by changing the boot command in the startup-config?

I have tried several variations of the boot command in the startup-config but the switch always reboots and stops at the romon prompt.

There is a copy of s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI3.bin on Disk0: and in the sup-bootdisk:

What should be the exact syntax of the boot command to boot to s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI3.bin? I don't care if it is disk0: or sup-bootdisk:

I looked at another switch that has this same supervisor and the boot variables are all blank even the BOOT line. I don't know if that switch would stay at the romon prompt if rebooted but it does not have the line: "Standby not ready to show bootvar"  it says something like: "standby not inserted?"
Hello,

This is correct syntax:
boot system sup-bootdisk:s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI3.bin

You also need to do wr mem to apply it.
In sh run you should see:

!
boot-start-marker
boot system sup-bootdisk:s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI3.bin
boot-end-marker
!

Also check sh bootvar:
#sh bootvar
BOOT variable = sup-bootdisk:s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI3.bin,12;
BOOTLDR variable =
Configuration register is 0x2102

Check also config register it should be: 0x2102

Regards!
