Email Alert

I have an iPhone 3GS syncing with my Outlook Exhange Server. I have set my New Mail sound to ON and Fetch New Data to PUSH. I do not get a sound alert when new mail arrives. I have to Open my email so that the phone syncs and downloads new mail. Is this how it's supposed to work?

It's not how it's supposed to work.

Have you tried to reset your iPhone?

Are you using Exchange Activesync to synch with the mail server, or did you use some other protocol (i.e., POP or IMAP)? Activesync is the only PUSH technology available with Exchange server. POP and IMAP are pull technologies, so if you set your phone up to use one of them, then the behavior you described is normal.

I am using active sync and have tried resetting my phone. I am wondering if it has something to do with the release I am using on the phone. I am using release 4.3.5 of the OS.

I get the same result when I configure my Hotmail account on the iPhone. I do not get alerts when new mail arrives. I have upgraded to OS 5.0 and still no joy. Any ideas?

Having the same issue...I do not get alerts when I receive new mail/.....
when you say you deleted the email account ..are you talking abut on the exchange server or jus on the phone ?
