Share Point 2010

How can I link documents in Share Point to the original copy that is located on a file share. So that when changes are made made to the document they are changed in both places.

You need to enable "alllow management of content types" with in your document library under advance settings.

Then add from existing content type and add the "Link to a Document" Content Type. This will now allow you to store a link (to a document) in your document library.

You will need to use the following format to link to a file share: file://\\servername\sharename\filename.txt
