I have created a link in a web based application, how can I modify the link to open in a new tab rather than go to the link in the same tab?

Thanks in advance.

<a href="yourlink" target="_blank">link</a>
As above, you can specify your target to be "_blank" or alternatively you can use any name you like...

You can use the reserved target names:

_blank will give you a blank window
<a href="http://www.google.com.au" target="_blank">_blank</a>

_parent will target the parent window (used for navigating framesets
<a href="http://www.google.com.au" target="_parent">_parent</a>

_self will force the link to open in the current window
<a href="http://www.google.com.au" target="_self">_self</a>

"any_other_name_you_want" you can use any name you like for the target... if a window with that name does not exist, the browser will create that window and open the link.
<a href="http://www.google.com.au" target="any_name">any_name</a>

The one thing you cannot control is whether it appears in a new window or a new tab. this is determined by the user's browser.
