QNAP SS-439 NAS Minimum Drives Required?

The SS-439 has 4 bays and sells w/o drives. We would like to use ONLY 2 drives for now and later add the other 2 drives.

Q. Can we install only 1 or 2 drives for now and later add the others?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

RAID 0 is the performance RAID.  It uses only 2 drives and acts as a single drive, the data is striped in user customizable sizes (Eg: 64, 128).

RAID 1 also uses only 2 drives and is mirrored.  Each drive is a duplicate of the other.

For more information on RAID levels see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID#Standard_levels
