Outlook 2003 Change Default Style From Paragraph to Normal

I have exactly the same issue as was asked in Question 22387172.  I couldn't word it better myself...When composing a new message in Outlook 2003 using the HTML format and the Outlook email editor (not Word) a user gets a double line spacing after hitting <Enter>.  This is because the style of the message is set to 'Paragraph' rather than 'Normal.'  The problem is that we can't figure out how to get the message style set to Normal permanently.  With each new message the style has to be re-set to Normal from Paragraph.... War1 gave an accepted answer #18527399 which worked for aberdahl.  BUT IT DOESN'T WORK FOR ME.  I have deleted all of the normal.dot files.  I tried the trick to change to plain text... apply... change to html... apply.  In fact I closed and reopened Outlook in between the changes.  That was a 4-year old question.  But probably I'm still not alone.  What else can I try?

I started up my XP / Office 2003 machine and I note I have Word set to Normal Style. When I start a new HTML mail in Outlook (not wth Word as editor), I still get Normal style and Single Spacing all the time.

Outlook does have template locations. See: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/outlook-file-locations-HP003082210.aspx

What you need to do is create an Outlook email message with the Normal style changed to be spaced like you want it to be. Then save your message with an .oft file extension.

Well, it turns out to apparently not be simply caused by Outlook's default coding.  I was editing a signature which HAD evidently been in normal style and seemingly somehow got changed to paragraph style.  This morning when I started a new signature from blank, it worked OK, holding itself in Normal style.  I will hasten to add, though, that this feature in Outlook 2003 does not work as slick and predictably as it should.  I haven't studied the newer releases, so maybe they are easier to use.  I confess though to a little fear that if I let this case be closed, that it might just start acting up again.  

Thanks, Thinkpads_user, and dlc110161 for your input.  I know about the template and I was seriously considering using that.  Actually I still might if I can put a macro into a button.  That would be kinda slick.

Well if its a Signature block, then pressing ALT+Enter will put in a line break instead of a hard return and will keep the signature single spaced.

That sounds like a cool solution.  How would I apply that?  Word doesn't seem to recognize just a plain ALT+Enter.  Dreamweaver (HTML) code doesn't seem to either.  In the ASCII table, CR is dec 13 and LF is dec 10.  Other characters can be added into Word such as ALT+248 for the °symbol.  When I enter ALT+Enter into Word, I get the eighth note.  In the Word symbols listing it says that the eighth note is ALT+X.  Confusing.  So how could I enter CR without a LF?

Sorry - Try CTRL+ Enter inside of Word. Shift+Enter inside the Signatures dialog box in Outlook.

That's what I get when I don't take the time to test. (ALT+Enter) works inside an Excel cell to create the new line.
