hi all
in my company we have a 2 virtual SERVERS (on VMWARE ESXI4), OS: server 2008 R2 64 bit with SQL 2000 and 2005 and 2008 installed, each of these servers have 6G RAM and 4 processors.
we have simultaneously top of 10 users working.
sometimes the SQL servers work very slow (Although the server works normal) , in the performance of the servers the server is not loaded.

how can i optimize my SQL SERVERS or know what is that makes them work so slow?

Could be a number of things.

1) Verify that if multiple SQLs are drawing from the same memory pool, that they have a "max memory" setting to make sure they do not try to "steal" each others' memory.

2) Make sure tempdb has multiple data files *all the same size*.

3) Make sure there are no issues with disk i/o performance.

4) Look at the sys.dm_os_wait_stats view to determine what is causing the most waits in SQL Server.

10x for the quick answer, if i give to each sql server 2G max memory do you think they will now "steal" each other memory?
Scott PletcherSenior DBACommented:
Not if you put a "max memory" of 2G, say, on each one.

If you do that, they/Windows "knows" enough to use separate 2G for each :-) .
