How is Microsoft Active Directory used with 4

I have a project where I am told I will have to use Microsoft Active Directory with 4 to hold user data and permissions. I need to find out more about how this is done and need some guidance or articles on the subject.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Active Directory and ASP.NET is a pretty broad question, so I guess you are looking for a point in the right direction.

What you would be looking for is resources that talk about LDAP authentication.  The usual approach is to have a web site with Forms authentication, where you accept a user name and password, then query the Active Directory server to verify the correct information.

In addition to what [TheLearnedOne] says, you can also force Windows Authentication for the site on the server side, by turning off Anonymous access and enabling Integrated, Digest or Basic authentication.
