outlook emails
Hello
We are switching to gmail in our office from exchange and there are some folders on our server with files that are outlook emails. Is there a way to save these as text files or open them without outlook? Any help you can give me would be great!

The files are not pst files they are just e-mails with the extension .eml

If they are just .eml files residing on your hard drive, just change the file extension to .txt and it will retain the ASCII format.

I tired to rename the email and you can see the test but there is all sorts of unreadable characters before the email.

If I save it as HTML is is more readable but there is still text like this
"ÿ@ŸA¯B¿9F9Ý0ßH?:O;_á‘0 god› ÚS$°všÐ\A'p„("
and the top and bottom of the e-mail.

Sorry the extension is .msg
Have you tried saving them as .msg as suggested in dillonconsulting's last post?
What is the reasoning behind the specific text file format? Most mail applications will be able to open the .msg format, so I would say that would be the best route.

The app I found is great!
There is a migration tool for Exchange > Gmail here: http://tools.google.com/dlpage/outlookmigration
Should be able to import any .pst files from Exchange into your google apps accounts. etc.
