Adaptive Technology software to replicate Predictive text for the physically challenged

I am getting into Adaptive Technology (AT), to help my friend with cerebral palsy. He is highly intelligent and very Internet active, but is severely limited by the motor functions of his hands, speech, and head movement. He has the ability to use a motorized chair with a ball style joystick pretty well. I am looking into (AT) joysticks that can be used as mouse input, and also to select the on screen keyboard in Win7, but the big thing I need is a software install that will work similar to predictive text on any phone or smart phone these days. Need something with an onscreen keyboard that then can pop up predictive words that can be selected with the mouse so that he doesn't have to type out every letter, as he can only use one finger to type and his range of motion accuracy is limited also with the width of a keyboard. Any ideas mainly on the predictive text software part? If anyone is versed in any other AT please contribute. This can really change his world. Thanks.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Sorry, I meant to use the term Assistive Technology (AT) not Adaptive.

My father has CP and I have MS, so knowledge of AT is right up my alley. The easiest, albeit at times frustrating during the training process, is Dragon Naturally Speaking. This is software that you can add to any PC. It will "learn" your voice, accent, speech patterns, etc and type the words that you say for you. This removes the need to type altogether. When you're not typing, and you simply want to surf the web, you can use Dragon Naturally Speaking to act as a mouse with certain command like "go to" or "click" to activate a button or link.

What other sorts of AT are you looking for?

Sorry I forgot to add that speech may not be an option as his speech is challenged and measured also. Thank you for the input.

Keep your finger, or eye in this case, to the pulse of eye tracking. It will soon have a very large impact on the AT environment. Read more here: http://cordis.europa.eu/ictresults/index.cfm?section=news&tpl=article&ID=90668
