NetApp permissions / role required to modify quotas

Hi there,

We have a netapp 2050 that we use to provide CIFS shares to end-users.

We have Qtrees and quotas setup on a number of these shares that the 2/3 rd line engineers currently have to modify when a user has filled up their drive.

I am wanting to pass this workload to our 1st support, but don't want to give full admin access to the filer.

Can anyone tell me what the minimum role / permission is to allow them to perform these functions?

Many Thanks

Dear jesus_hairdo,

To my knowledge, admin capabilities are required for managing/changing quotas.

It is possible to create a group (or integrate AD groups - I believe you have an AD as you utilize CIFS shares) on the 2050, and then assign a certain role with selected capabilities thereto (e.g. please refer to the section "How to manage administrator access" concerning roles, capabilities and in the "Data ONTAP 7.3 System Administration Guide"

I am however not aware of a/any specific capability which can be assigned to a group, allowing "only Quota management" abilities.

So my best advice would be for you to contact you NetApp integrator company, asking them for a solution utilizing a group with the specific capability.
You may then consider whether you want the capability of you 1st support via FilerView ("GUI") or scripting the management ("CLI"), where the latter may be the "safest" in terms of controlling what is done.

Kind regards,
